I've been on DA since 2005 and a senior member since 2006. As a full time student, I spend a lot of my time studying and doing course work. When I'm not doing that, I'm usually here kicking it with you guys!

saturday morning coffee.Seattle held many secrets in its dreary rainfall: college kids having sex in the 7-11 bathroom, a drug dealer staking out Rainier Valley for new clientele, and, worst of all, a secret agent working at the Starbucks on 5th Avenue. I had watched him for months now and every day something suspicious seemed to happen. Today, the strange behavior revolved around the chocolate syrup pump sitting surreptitiously behind neatly placed metallic coffee mugs for sale. The perfect hiding spot for seedy behavior! A woman I earmarked as pleasant-enough looking leaned over the counter cautiously, eye over her shoulder to detect any prying eyes. She whispered something to the duplicitous cashier who squinted his eyes and squished his face, as if he smelled something rancid. Perhaps it were his devious plans that smelled so foul! But alas, all that would transpire would be a few extra squirts of syrup into the woman's drink. This wasn't enough to convince me of his la

Screenwriting 101: IntroHello and welcome to Screenwriting 101! This week, you will be given a task every other day along with instructions, resources, and video examples. By the end of this week-long workshop, you will have a short screenplay that you can show off to others, maybe even have it produced into a film!
What you will need:
Computer or tablet
Screenwriting software (I will be using Final Draft in all my examples, but you could literally do it on paper by hand if you wanted, or even in Sta.shWriter)
If you're brand new to screenwriting, please spend the next day familiarizing yourself with your software and its various features.
Screenplays serve as blueprints for a film. While the director makes the ultimate decisions regarding how the story is told (because the story will need to fit their style), the writer is responsible for the ideas. Sometimes, a screenplay will c
DD Discussion chat on May 12Up to thirty-one pieces of literature are selected as Daily Deviations every month. You may read them every day, or once in a long while, or perhaps you wait and browse through the CRLiterature journal compiling them at the end of the month. After reading, you may leave a comment, add the work to your Favorites, or just move on. What you probably do not do is discuss your thoughts and reactions with other readers.
We are inviting you to do just that with us in #CRLiterature this Saturday, May 12 at 11am DA Standard Time (PDT) - see what that is in your time zone here. We will be discussing a selection of Literature Daily Deviations from the month of April.
We believe that discussion with friends and peers is a valuable part of how a reader experien
How and Where to Submit Your LiteratureGallery Descriptions and Miscats Month
There are many ways of submitting your writing on DeviantArt, and in this article we're going to go right back to basics to ensure you can get your work to the best possible place it can be to attract the right audience.
How to Submit Writing to DeviantArt
Before we even get on to where to submit your literature, let's have a look at the various ways you can get your writing into the DeviantArt galleries. There's a number of ways to do this, each one is suitable for a different goal:
1. Sta.sh Writer
First on the list, and the best way to prepare your writing for submission to your gallery, is Sta.sh Writer. Be it a poem, a story, a character sheet, or even a journal, Sta.sh offers the most intuitive and flexible way to input text on DeviantArt.
Hover the cursor over the big 'SUBMIT' button, and you should see the link to Sta.sh displayed in a drop-down menu. From the right-hand side of the screen, loc
Exploring Literature and Fan FictionGallery Descriptions and Miscats Month
Hello and welcome, fellow deviants! I'm SingingFlames, former Community Volunteer for the Literature and Fan Fiction Galleries. DA may be well-known for its visual art, but it has an extensive and varied selection of written works as well. Like Alice slipping down the rabbit hole, it's quite easy to get lost in our vast Literature Gallery. I'm here to show you around my favorite stomping grounds (and steer you clear of the Queen of Hearts, should the need arise).
Welcome to Literature!
Many may hear 'literature' and think of Dickens, Machiavelli or Bradbury, classic authors our high school English teachers touted. However, on DA, literature encompasses the vast majority of written deviations submitted (excluding journals, tutorials and templates). Literature has several sub-categories, each with their own (sometimes numerous) sub-categories. There's a home for just about everything here. Let's dive on in!

Gallery Descriptions and Miscats Month: Intro!Gallery Descriptions and Miscats Month
I'd like to introduce you to a month that has been in the works since the end of 2017. From today to March 18th, you will be seeing a series of articles come through the group discussing the various galleries that exist here on DeviantArt. The aim of this month is to help you better understand these galleries, and also better understand how you might have been miscategorizing your work. A big part of this is us showing you what the differences are between some galleries that are eerily similar to each other, which creates a lot of confusion in the community. The Gallery Tree is not perfect. After all, what is? There are many galleries that are hardly used by users, or are filled with miscategorized work, and there are many galleries that may seem redundant as other galleries exist for almost the same exact type of art. So, we do understand how many of you have become confused by them. Throughout this month we hope to answer some of y
Traditional Art Basics: IntroductionTraditional Art Basics
and welcome to the Traditional Art Week here at projecteducate!
Once Upon a Time…
That was the last time Traditional Art was given some PE love and attention, so it’s been a long time coming, that’s for sure. But we are back, hoping the community will forgive us for our absence, and help us and the talented artists who so kindly gave their time and knowledge to get the word out by faving and sharing the articles we are going to post this week.
Back to Basics
Instead of pretending no time has passed and simply jumping in at the deep end of the Traditional spectrum, we thought it would be a good idea to go right back to the beginning - quite literally - and start again:
With the Basics of Traditional Art.
We have some wonderful articles lined up for you over the next five days, covering quite a bit of ground, to hopefully help some of you find your feet and ma

Call to Action Part 2!The community needs you.
Yes, you. You right there. The Community STILL needs you.
Do you like DA? Like writing, fostering others, helping out? Do you want to pitch in and help the community? Great, I've got a job for you.
We need group administrators
I've been in touch with several of the longer standing or big name literature groups for DA right now and they are all saying the same thing: they need active administrators. DA has been having a problem lately, at least our little corner of it, with many new groups popping up but not enough support for the older, bigger ones. Which is sad. Of course, new groups are always welcome, but it is such a shame to lose groups that used to be community centers just because they don't have enough staff. So here is what I would like to do: I'll post a few FAQs about group administrating, and then a short questionaire - you can note me or reply in a comment to this journal with the questionaire if y
2018: A new Tutorial projectDear members,
Based on recent polls and discussions with the community, we are planning to begin a new project series at projecteducate this year. The project is Tutorial Tuesdays - as often as possible, when our schedule is free (meaning no week is in progress) you will see a tutorial pop up in your message centers on Tuesdays. The series will aim to cover all galleries of DeviantArt, and of course tutorials of DeviantArt itself are also welcome.
The project series is still in the works, and we have quite a busy schedule of weeks for 2018, but keep an eye out for our first issue! By the way, if you'd like to see what we have in store thus far for 2018, check out our schedule here: Project Educate Schedule
So now for the big question - many of you expressed you'd like to contribute tutorials for this project. We'd love to hear about the ideas you have. So, if you'd like to wri
