saturday morning coffee.Seattle held many secrets in its dreary rainfall: college kids having sex in the 7-11 bathroom, a drug dealer staking out Rainier Valley for new clientele, and, worst of all, a secret agent working at the Starbucks on 5th Avenue. I had watched him for months now and every day something suspicious seemed to happen. Today, the strange behavior revolved around the chocolate syrup pump sitting surreptitiously behind neatly placed metallic coffee mugs for sale. The perfect hiding spot for seedy behavior! A woman I earmarked as pleasant-enough looking leaned over the counter cautiously, eye over her shoulder to detect any prying eyes. She whispered something to the duplicitous cashier who squinted his eyes and squished his face, as if he smelled something rancid. Perhaps it were his devious plans that smelled so foul! But alas, all that would transpire would be a few extra squirts of syrup into the woman's drink. This wasn't enough to convince me of his la

Traditional Art Basics: IntroductionTraditional Art Basics
and welcome to the Traditional Art Week here at projecteducate!
Once Upon a Time…
That was the last time Traditional Art was given some PE love and attention, so it’s been a long time coming, that’s for sure. But we are back, hoping the community will forgive us for our absence, and help us and the talented artists who so kindly gave their time and knowledge to get the word out by faving and sharing the articles we are going to post this week.
Back to Basics
Instead of pretending no time has passed and simply jumping in at the deep end of the Traditional spectrum, we thought it would be a good idea to go right back to the beginning - quite literally - and start again:
With the Basics of Traditional Art.
We have some wonderful articles lined up for you over the next five days, covering quite a bit of ground, to hopefully help some of you find your feet and ma

Call to Action Part 2!The community needs you.
Yes, you. You right there. The Community STILL needs you.
Do you like DA? Like writing, fostering others, helping out? Do you want to pitch in and help the community? Great, I've got a job for you.
We need group administrators
I've been in touch with several of the longer standing or big name literature groups for DA right now and they are all saying the same thing: they need active administrators. DA has been having a problem lately, at least our little corner of it, with many new groups popping up but not enough support for the older, bigger ones. Which is sad. Of course, new groups are always welcome, but it is such a shame to lose groups that used to be community centers just because they don't have enough staff. So here is what I would like to do: I'll post a few FAQs about group administrating, and then a short questionaire - you can note me or reply in a comment to this journal with the questionaire if y
2018: A new Tutorial projectDear members,
Based on recent polls and discussions with the community, we are planning to begin a new project series at projecteducate this year. The project is Tutorial Tuesdays - as often as possible, when our schedule is free (meaning no week is in progress) you will see a tutorial pop up in your message centers on Tuesdays. The series will aim to cover all galleries of DeviantArt, and of course tutorials of DeviantArt itself are also welcome.
The project series is still in the works, and we have quite a busy schedule of weeks for 2018, but keep an eye out for our first issue! By the way, if you'd like to see what we have in store thus far for 2018, check out our schedule here: Project Educate Schedule
So now for the big question - many of you expressed you'd like to contribute tutorials for this project. We'd love to hear about the ideas you have. So, if you'd like to wri

Critique Chat Saturday!Hey all,
We're hosting a literature critique chat in #CRLiterature on Saturday, October 14th at 2pm* DA standard time (PDT). See what that is in your time zone here. We'll post a poll before the event, so stay tuned.
*Note, if this time is changed, we'll update ASAP and make sure both poll and journal are accurate.
What to bring with me?
I don't recommend bringing a totally unedited first draft in, just because people are going to point out things you already know to fix, and you're going to miss out on the biggest advantage of getting outside feedback, which is seeing your work in a new light.
We're not fussy as to the format - sta.sh, deviations, as long as we can read it! The only limitation is on length. Please come prepared with pieces no longer than 1500 words (prose) or 30 l
Crowdfunding for AuthorsArt in the Professions
This article was made possible through the help of many, many authors who were kind enough to provide me with a few words on their experiences of crowdfunding: they passed on far more information than I could have provided on my own. If their work interests you, please do consider supporting it (especially if they're not yet fully funded)!
You’ve heard of Kickstarter, right? Imagine writing any book you like, posting a small sample of it online, and getting lots of sweet, sweet internet money rolling in to fund that masterpiece without any further effort.
Now keep imagining, because it’s never gonna happen.
Crowdfunding is hard. If there’s one bit of information everyone should take away from this, that’s the one. You aren’t slapping a book online and waiting for the funds to materialise: you’re selling something that doesn’t even exist yet. If you can

Tandem contest winners!Ladies and gentlemen, the time has come for us to announce the winners of the Tandem Contest!!
But first of all, a HUGE thank you to everyone who donated for this contest and promoted it! (deviants but also groups). This contest wouldn't have been a success without your help
And of course, thank you to ALL the participants for taking part of it!
Trust me, picking a top 3 was difficult for us because the entries were really good! But we finally made our decision!

The plural of Mongoose is PolygeeseIt’s not April Yet!
Alright, you got me. This is my April journal, based off my aim to submit one journal a month for this year (barring a rather shaky start in Jan/Feb…), and to build on that irregular schedule, I’m submitting this in March.
Well I’ve got two excuses here. One is the obvious one – my core membership runs out in only a few days, and I wanted to make sure I got at least one more journal posted with pretty CSS.
Strike that, everybody go shower some love on the ever awesome Zara-Arletis since she just topped up my core membership for another few months. Thank you so much! Guess you'll have to put up with my rambling journals a little while longer!
The other, equally important reason, is because April is going to be a Very Busy Month! You can read more at the ‘what’s on’ section at the bottom of this very journal, but for now let me just leave you this.
Three Million DollarsBy no means was I surprised when the first pop-up appeared on my computer screen. I had been surfing through the internet for about 30 minutes when it happened, and I just assumed it was some sort of stupid virus. Or scam. I mean, it had to be, right?
“Click now to receive three million dollars! Just press “Accept”!”
How wonderful, the sarcastic little voice in my head meeped. No, thank you. I quickly searched for the red “x” button on the top right corner of the message and pressed it, hoping that wouldn’t bring me to another site full of ads and even more misery. Can’t I look through my social media in peace?
“Click now to receive three million dollars! All you have to do is press the button below!”
Another one? Now, this was just getting annoying. I repeated the same step as I did before. Holding
